This house is under development application to be put on the local, state and national historic registers. It is 718n market and it is completely run down and boarded up. I have heard a rumour that it is going to be turned into large flats. Time will tell.

WaterWalk Downtown

I am experimenting with a new software called QTpfsGUI or as I like to call it, Luminance HDR. This photo is a demonstration of a more pronounced effect it can make. It is very pretty and I like it. Going to have to try this on and in some local Churches.

Found this story narrated by Lucia (5 yo)

July 13, 2009

Lucia

Oh, guess what! I standed on my baby doll, and so the head came off! And this was the funniest thing that happened in my whole life! When I was going to go get my pajamas on, I started to throw my baby doll on the tent! And before I had took my bath, I was on the swingset writing in my Tinker-bell journal. And so I hate it when Mama goes to the library and goes through the drive-through. But I love it when Mama goes to the library and takes us and lets us all pick out books!

Wisdom in those Eyes

This is my great uncle Eugene. Born, raised and lived his life farming in NorthWest Kansas has made him very wise. He doesn't pull punches, he will tell you what he thinks but he is also one of the orneriest people that I know. This is a snapshot turned portrait I took this past deer season. He was born in the midst of the depression to a family of 16 kids (9 boys and 7 girls). I have had many a memorable visit to his farm.

Porch Pumpkins

Porch Pumpkins
Originally uploaded by kc0lex (Matthew)
This is the final result of a couple hours of work I undertook with the 4 oldest girls. Dawn and Addie went shopping and I got to slice open 3 pumpkins (1 had gone rotten) and supervise the gutting of the pumpkins. We drew faces on them and cut them. Mary (10.5 now) wanted to carve the face of one while I worked on another and I didn't let her. However, she is getting old enough that with some supervision she will be carving one next year. I have some more pictures to put up from the carving and 1 other picture of the finished product that just has the glowing cutouts but no glowing pumpkins. Hope everyone had a great All Hallows and remembered their loved ones on All Souls.

Quote of the day

I place economy among the first and most important virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and in our comforts, in our labor and in our amusements. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy.

- Thomas Jefferson

Not only is this a quote of the day, it is something that makes you go hmmmmm.

In the Line of Duty

Today I have the honor of going to the Funeral of a man who sacrificed his life for his community. He got up every morning and went out the door to serve no matter what the call for help was. This past Monday he paid the ultimate sacrifice, In the Line of Duty.

I like it and my Grandma made it, 'nuff said.

Assistant to the teacher 34/365

It's good to have an assistant but if you look closely you see what happens when you don't let them do anything. Someone was a little upset and I know they weren't upset with mom. (She was upset with me because of how I was having mom pose her).

1 month old and it is supposed to be spring 29/365

Yesterday was the beginning of what was supposed to be a blizzard but it turned out to be several inches of ice covered by several inches of snow. Here is Adelaide getting taken into Church. Her sisters didn't quite wait for her.

Dapples and greys 28/365

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and bays, dapples and greys,
Go to sleep you little baby,
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby,
When you wake, you shall have,

Smiling? 27/365

Too much Love? 26/365

March 25th, 2009

Dawn finished nursing Adelaide this evening and held her and rocked her for awhile. When she went to change her diaper we found that holding her on Dawn's heart left an impression. If you look close, the shape of Dawn's heart-shaped necklace was impressed into Addie's skin.

No, we aren't marsupials but we have learned a little bit from them in terms of carrying kids. They love it and it is easier to get stuff done.

Worn Out Shopper 24/365

Adelaide went shopping with mommy while her sisters were at art class. Addie is such an avid shopper she wore herself out. What did daddy get out of Addie doing all that shopping? I get to look at this t-shirt! ("I'll always be daddy's little girl!")

Keeper at Sunrise

Keeper at Sunrise
Originally uploaded by kc0lex (Matthew)
Took this picture at the literal crack of dawn at the Keeper of the Plains in Wichita, Ks. This is located at the confluence of the Big and Little Arkansas River. Dawn said I should try to find someone to buy pictures I take like this. She said something to the effect that it looks like a postcard. I wished the clouds had been a bit further off the horizon and I could have taken the picture about 5 minutes later for just a bit more light on the horizon. Unfortunately, the lights that illuminate the keeper were turned off about 4 minutes after this picture was taken.

Priveleged view 20/365

I figured for today I would let you see something that I see and let you see it how I see it. This is what i see when I hold my little baby.

My wife has a couple ideas that we may have to try as we get going further on down the road. If you have any, feel free to get ahold of me by commenting, calling, emailing or however you communicate so I can make it a reality.

Where's Adelaide? 19/365

Addie is the bigger one of the two in case you couldn't tell. I think she has about 1/2 an inch more reach than the doll finally. Nothing fancy today, but it was a busy one.

First trip to the park 17/365

It was such a nice day, we just had to go to the park and play for awhile.

A few quiet moments 16/365

Shhhh! Actually, when she is sleeping she can sleep through lots of noise. Don't worry, even when I don't get them uploaded right away, I am still snapping pictures of the little one every day.

A Visit from The Great Grandpa 15/365

Addie is two weeks old today and she got a huge gift, a visit from her Great Grandfather. Great Grandpa came bearing choclate, cookies and dollars bills for her sisters. Great Grandpa came claiming to want to see if Addie could talk and showed how ornery us Sauer men could be playing with everyone.

My Friend Flicka (aka My Sis Addie) 14/365

One of the things that Dawn does for school is read chapter books aloud to the kids. Today Anna held her little sister, Adelaide, while Dawn read a couple chapters from, "My Friend Flicka".

Bathtime 13/365 and an outtake

Originally, today's picture was going to be a cute capture of Mary holding Addie:

reading and loving 13/365 --outtake

However, Dawn had a different idea for today, March 12th, and she didn't even realize it. This project isn't just a chance for me to do really cool edited pictures or make things that visually "Pop". Yes, I love to do that kind of thing but this project is about catching the first year of a little girl's life, one frame and one day at a time. Little Adelaide will grow so much over this year. If you are reading things, thank you for following along on the ride. Yep, I couldn't help but catch the first bath. Bu Bu bu bathtime 13/365

I saw Dawn holding Addie as I was carrying laundry up and down the hallway. Caughter her making faces at her while holding Adelaide's head in her hand. Grabbed my camera, framed it up a bit and here ya go, day 12.

Triplets? or Where's Addie 7/365

The baby doll on the left has at times been mistaken as a real baby and it's really bad when we don't realize people think it is real and we are walking along swinging it by it's leg. I am usually very afraid to leave it in the car but secretly wish for a hidden camera so I could put it in a car seat with a blanket, park it at a convenience store and let the mayhem ensue, maybe leave the windows open or a door open.

On second thoughts, nah, that wouldn't be any fun. I will stick to being straight-laced. Friday, March 7, 2009 . . . almost a week old.
